Practice Expectations

The Big Country Hospital (Oyen) offers a full-scope rural family medicine practice with admitting privileges.

Physicians typically engage in clinical duties five days per week (minimum 40 hours), with participation in the emergency department on-call rotation as outlined by AHS South Zone.

Residency within the community of Oyen is expected to ensure strong integration with patients, colleagues, and the local health team.

Professional Standards & Training

  • CCFP designation preferred

  • ACLS and ATLS required; NRP, MOREOB, and ALARM desired

  • Active involvement in quality improvement and continuing education encouraged

  • Preference for candidates with recent rural or emergency experience

Licensing & Registration

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Information on eligibility and the provisional register is available at: www.cpsa.ab.ca

Relocation & Financial Incentives

  • Relocation assistance may be available through AHS

  • AMA incentives and benefits available to members

  • Municipal incentives available to support relocation and community integration

  • Compensation: Fee-for-Service, supported by Alberta Health Services
